Yesteday in Benalmadena beach one of Policia Local was beating up woman very badly in front of people. Draging her on the ground and abusing her verbally all the time. She was crying and asking him to stop. He put his hands on her neck and begun chocking her until her face became red. People on the beach tried to stop this but he just got out of control. I am out of words.

I as a non-resident wanted to change my surname in NIE and I went to the office today. This time there was a very helpful police officer at the reception desk. I tried to speak Spanish but he could speak English! He said I should have an appointment but the first possible one would be at the end of September. I won't be here then anymore. Then he told me that I could also go to the Embassy at home. That would solve my problem ! Last time I was there about two years ago I could clearly feel that the officer wanted to get rid of me. He didn't speak any English and was angry because I couldn't understand everything he said. Muchas gracias por ayuda!

Overall good experience with the Arroyo De La Miel National Police July 2018I would like to add an overall good review of the Arroyo De La Miel National Police. Our apartment in Benalmdena was broken into while we were out (Sunday evening between 7 and 11, so beware). Not knowing the difference between police forces I called the Local Police, an officer there was sympathetic, he had some English but couldnt help me as it was a criminal issue, so I had to ring the Arroyo De La Miel National Police. I rang that night and an officer answered, before I could even tell him what happened he said that I needed to call when the translator was there and he just hung up (thankfully I wasnt alone in a difficult situation somewhere!). But aside from this our dealings with the Arroyo De La Miel National Police were efficient and thorough (much better than we expected from the reviews we read online). We went to the police station met with a translator, then we met with a police officer and the translator came in to that meeting also and was very helpful, we made a statement and got a copy for our records in Spanish (this took about 2 hours including waiting in between meetings). To our surprise police came to take fingerprints and photographs at the apartment later that evening. So despite one rude police officer, we had an overall good an experience with the police. When it happened I thought what is the point in reporting it, we wont get anything back and it will take forever to deal with the police etc. But I would encourage you to report any crime as the police said they would keep an eye on the apartment & complex on their rounds, you might help the next and fellow occupants, and you never know re getting your goods back. In this case unfortunately the burglar used a screwdriver to take the lock of the door & then wiped the lock, so there were no fingerprints. Tip: remember to bring your passport to the police station. The translator is there from 10am & works mornings only (as far as we could tell). She mentioned that there is a specific phone number you can ring to get a translator also, maybe look that up if your time is short. Have a list with you, with as much details as possible about what was stolen (IMEI number on phone, ipad, laptops etc; colour, make, markings, value of goods etc). I had no IMEI numbers etc, but I have learned my lesson since. I hope you have a great holiday and never have any reason to call la Polica.
